Sunt Marin Ciurci, din comuna Nicolae Bălcescu, județul Vâlcea. Fac împletituri din răchită din anul 1969. Am fost la Vlădești, la o secție de împletituri din răchită, am văzut cum se lucrează acolo și m-am îndrăgostit de această meserie. L-am întrebat pe domnul director dacă vrea să mă angajeze, aveam 15 ani și jumătate atunci. Și m-a angajat, am făcut ucenicia acolo și în două săptămâni am devenit lucrător. Tot ce lucram era pentru export, eram apreciat, iar directorul mă punea să fac mostre special pentru comenzile din afara țării. La un moment dat am devenit tractorist, am renunțat la împletituri. După pensionare am revenit la prima dragoste, la prima meserie. Am cultivat răchită, am făcut o pepinieră pe terenul meu și am reluat împletiturile. Am patru copii. Unul dintre copiii mei, care a văzut cât de apreciate sunt împletiturile din răchită, a vrut să învețe meșteșugul. I-a plăcut, acum lucrează cu mine și sunt foarte mândru că cineva moștenește meșteșugul împletiturilor din răchită. Am și un nepot căruia i-a plăcut meșteșugul și, deși este student, a zis că în timpul liber se va ocupa și de asta. Sunt mândru de ce am realizat, este o meserie frumoasă și curată, de aceea îi invit alături de noi pe toți cei care vor să o învețe.
I am Marin Ciurci, from Nicolae Bălcescu commune, Vâlcea county. I have been making wicker braids since 1969. I went to Vladesti, to a wicker braiding section, I saw how they work there and I fell in love with this job. I asked the director if he wanted to hire me, I was 15 and a half at the time. And he hired me, I did the apprenticeship there and in two weeks I became a worker. Everything I worked on was for export, I was appreciated, and the manager made me make samples especially for orders from outside the country. At some point I became a tractor driver, I gave up braiding. After retirement I returned to my first love, my first job. I grew wicker, made a nursery on my plot and resumed braiding. I have four children. One of my children, seeing how popular wickerwork was, wanted to learn the craft. She loved it, now she works with me and I am very proud that someone is inheriting the craft of wickerwork. I also have a nephew who liked the craft and even though he is a student, he said that he will take care of it in his spare time. I'm proud of what I've achieved, it's a beautiful and clean job, that's why I invite all those who want to learn it to join us.
